Our Services

  • Multi Radiance MR5 ActiVet LaserShower

The MR5 ACTIVet Cold LaserShower is a high-output, super-pulsed cold laser system widely regarded as one of the most powerful veterinary cold-laser platforms available. At Protea Equine, we use it as an evidence-informed modality to support pain modulation, inflammation control, microcirculation, and tissue repair—without heat.

The shower applicator allows efficient treatment of larger regions (tendons, suspensories, back, hips, and full limbs) in a short session, making it a practical option within structured programs for tendon and ligament strain, soft-tissue soreness, and wound/laceration healing support (at the appropriate stage), as well as performance recovery and maintenance.

In addition to area treatment, the system can be used for laser puncture (laser acupuncture–style point application)—a needle-free approach targeting specific points to support comfort and recovery. Cold laser may also be incorporated into breeding management protocols to support reproductive tissue wellness in mares and, in some cases, be used as an adjunct modality aimed at supporting semen parameters such as motility under appropriate professional guidance.

  • EquiVibe Vibration Plate Therapy

At Protea Equine, EquiVibe Vibration Plate Therapy is an integral part of our rehabilitation, conditioning & wellness programs. Its vertical vibration technology engages deep postural muscles, improves circulation, reduces stiffness, and supports healthy joint mobility; all non-invasive and drug-free.

Whether for prehab, rehab, recovery, or conditioning, EquiVibe helps horses move, heal, and perform at their best as part of our vet-directed, evidence-based care.

  • Thermal Imaging

Thermal imaging is a non-invasive diagnostic support tool used to assess surface temperature patterns that may indicate inflammation, circulation irregularities, or compensatory movement. By detecting subtle heat variations within the body, thermal imaging can help identify areas of concern before clinical signs become visible.

This technology is commonly used to support rehabilitation monitoring, performance management, and preventative care programs. Thermal imaging does not replace veterinary diagnosis, but serves as a valuable screening and progress-tracking tool when used alongside physical examinations and veterinary-directed treatment plans.

Thermal assessments can assist in guiding rehabilitation decisions, monitoring recovery over time, and supporting informed communication between owners, therapists, and veterinarians.

  • SURE FOOT Equine Stability Pads

SURE FOOT Equine Stability Pads help horses find greater stability, balance, and body awareness by gently challenging proprioception and activating the deep postural muscles. Through subtle input via the hooves, SURE FOOT engages the nervous system to create new neural pathways supporting better posture, improved engagement, and a stronger, more confident way of going.

  • Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy

A drug-free, non-invasive solution for pain relief and recovery. PEMF therapy is an important part of the healing journey for many of the horses in our rehabilitation and fitness programs.

Used within our vet directed care plans, PEMF supports healthy cellular function, reduces inflammation, eases muscle tension, and promotes more comfortable, balanced movement. It’s a valuable tool across prehab, rehab, recovery, and conditioning.

  • LED Infrared Red Light Therapy

    LED Infrared Red Light Therapy

Infrared Red Light Therapy is a non-invasive wellness modality used to support circulation, tissue recovery, and overall musculoskeletal comfort. By delivering targeted wavelengths of red and near-infrared light, this therapy penetrates beneath the skin to help stimulate cellular activity, promote oxygen delivery, and assist the body’s natural healing processes.

Commonly incorporated into rehabilitation, conditioning, and maintenance programs, Infrared Red Light Therapy may aid in reducing muscle tension, supporting joint health, and enhancing post-exercise recovery. Sessions are quiet, well-tolerated, and can be used independently or integrated into a veterinarian-directed care plan.

  • Theraputic Massage & Stretching

Therapeutic massage and targeted stretching involves the skilled & precise manipulation of soft tissues by a certified equine massage therapist that plays a vital role in keeping horses comfortable, supple, and performing at their best.

Each session supports the horse’s body by reducing muscle tension, improving circulation, and encouraging relaxation. These techniques help increase range of motion and flexibility, enhance overall performance, and complement vet-directed rehabilitation plans.

  • EquiBand Pro System

The Equiband Pro System is a specifically designed saddle pad with strategically placed resistance bands that stimulate receptors in the horse’s skin and hair follicles. In response to this stimulation, the abdominal, oblique, sublumbar and deep neck and back muscles are activated. These muscles stabilize the spine, and engage the hindquarters during movement.Use of the Equiband Pro System in rehab work, strengthens the core musculature of the horse, making it easier for the horse to work with optimal posture and engagement.

  • Structured Hand-Walking & Exercise

Structured hand-walking involves a conscientious handler leading a relaxed & engaged horse at a controlled pace in a purposeful way.

Structured hand-walking is beneficial to all horses but specifically horses recovering from injury, surgery or stall rest. This type of hand-walking is beneficial to rehab horses because it strategically and gradually re-introduces exercise into their routine, increased circulation, flexibility, as well as promotes mental stimulation & handler connection.

  • Purposeful Groundwork

Purposeful Groundwork teaches horses self-management, confidence, and relaxation through specific movement patterns and a clear communication system. Purposeful Groundwork is applicable to horses of all ages and disciplines, from young horses being started to high-level competitors. It aims to create a horse that is relaxed, confident, more supple, responsive & willing to trust the handler.

  • Shockwave Therapy

Shockwave therapy is a noninvasive, drug free therapy that uses sound waves to increases blood flow, increases growth of new blood vessels and increased the production of natural healing factors which all result in improved speed and quality of tendon, ligament, bone and wound healing.

Disclaimer - Protea Equine adheres to all provincial & federal regulations. Shockwave therapy is administered only by licensed veterinary authorization and/or supervision.
