Protea Equine takes its name from the Protea flower, the national emblem of South Africa and a symbol worn only by athletes chosen to represent the country on the international stage. I had the honour of competing in showjumping under that emblem, and it shaped my values: resilience, precision, and an uncompromising commitment to excellence.

Throughout my career, I trained in high-performance programs around the world where advanced rehabilitation and conditioning modalities like aqua treadmills, cold saltwater therapy, vibration therapy, and solarium work were seamlessly integrated into one unified system of care. These tools weren’t occasional add-ons; they were part of a coordinated, holistic approach to keeping horses sound in their mind, body and soul.

When I arrived in the Maritimes, I noticed something important:
Some of these modalities did exist but not together, not under one roof, and not within a dedicated rehabilitation, conditioning, and wellness facility.
Owners often had to piece together services from multiple locations, without the continuity, oversight, or structured programming I had seen in elite international environments.

Protea Equine was created to bring that integration, that standard, and that level of coordinated care to Atlantic Canada.

Bringing the name Protea into this business honours:

• the country I proudly represented,

• the horses who carried me through international sport, and

• the standard of care I believe every horse deserves.

At Protea Equine, our mission is clear:
To provide rehabilitation, conditioning & wellness guided by veterinarians, rooted in science, & delivered with compassion to change the lives of every horse in our care for the better.

Every horse is treated like our very own and we meet them where they are at regardless of whether they compete, condition, or simply need a place to heal.
